Inriver Retreats are evocative, finely crafted small structures created in collaboration with the boat builders at Inriver. They are on wheels, on pontoons, on a foundation or a combination of all three.
Inriver Retreats are anything you desire. A yoga studio. A man cave. A pool house. An outdoor kitchen. A mobile guest house. A child’s playhouse. A mediation retreat. An art studio. A writer’s retreat. A hen house. A den. A spare room.
Inriver built two of the retreats- Concord Retreat and Observation Booth.
Concord Retreat was our first completed retreat, designed as a traditional space with a twist. The inspiration for this structure came from the antique bulls-eye glass door and window pair that we found at an architectural salvage yard. From those pieces we chose details typical of their era, specific to Concord MA.
Roof: pitched, cedar shingles
Siding: painted clapboard
Interior sheathing- bead board
Ceiling- curved mahogany with skylight
Windows- one antique fixed window, two 1/1 double hung
Door- antique with lights, matches window
Floor- buckshot pine, varying widths
The retreat that we affectionately call Observation Booth is indeed a place for sitting and watching the world go by. This retreat floats on still water. Conceptually, it is an exploration of open and closed, glass and wood, and a study of literal and figurative reflection. A boat stove takes the chill off when necessary. While we imagine solitary contemplation or intimate chats with a friend, we can also see this retreat used as a swim house or a skate house- a wonderful element of family memories at the lake for generations to come.
